Whist I am not sure this is the best use of this technology, it does shows how we have come to both accept and now expect the control of these systems and devices from our smartphones.
Within your business, you can see who is at your office door and then decide whether to let them in. If you’re out, you can stream live CCTV coverage to see what is happening in the office or even check what happened there last Wednesday at 11AM.
For businesses, this type of technology allows the business owners and managers to deal quickly and efficiently with emergency situations wherever they are. There are times when the ability to see what has happened on a site will empower you will the knowledge needed to react accordingly and solve the issue.
Security systems have been connected on networks for many years and so smartphone apps are nothing new for us. What is true however, is that with every release of these apps they have got much smarter and more importantly much easier to use.
Access Control apps have also become commonplace; you can open your gates using a phone or maybe see who was the first person into the office yesterday morning. Perhaps more usefully, you can grant someone emergency access to a stockroom that they would not normally be allowed into. All done from your phone.
This type of technology and integration is now commonplace in many of our commercial installations allowing the individual security systems to be connected in order to form a security solution.
Intercom and Door Entry Apps have also made it onto the smartphone with the ability for you to see and talk to a delivery driver while you ordering your skinny decaf cappuccino at Starbucks. All in all, I would say that these apps offer a great way for your security systems to deliver the control and site monitoring all “in the palm of your hand”.
